smoking in a gas grill

Post by Mash »

I have a small "go anywhere" gas weber, which is fabulous.

But would like to include a simple smoking device for the duration of cooking... Any ideas for a quick and easy mod?

Not a fan of gas, but couldn't you lash up a small "cold smoke" set up to it, so as it's grilling, it's getting smoke which would be heated a bit by the grilling ?

Only because lets face it, cold smoking is just hanging stuff in some sort of container (seen cardboard boxes used) connected to a pipe and smoke generator. So can't see why doing similar but just a smoke generator to your gas grill should also work I'd have thought ?

I know what you mean about gas, but these things are brilliantly portable and easy to transport (cleanly ). Just want to work out how to smoke bomb in it (hot)

So as above then? Gas to actually cook, but a cold smoke generator connected by some foil hose to provide the smoke?

Not familiar with the gadget, and unsure if the lid is in use when cooking.
If this is so then a small can, sardine size, filled with wood chips may work.
Anytime you open the lid to turn/baste, whop a new can in or re-fill the existing?

Not to keen to cut into it. Don't want to make it into a dedicated smoker, just add a bit during cooking.

Lid is on. Cooking time is normally 30 mins. Sardine tin has got me thinking..

Sardine tin seems too quick. Good for quick puff, but not the smokey slow release I had in mind.
