Has anybody tried this type of finings?
Well i have just had a gamble and purchased these finings has anybody else here tried them?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320603128701? ... 625wt_1139
Its a bit of a gamble but if they work ok its only 59p per wash so fingers crossed that i havent wasted my money.

Do you have to mix with boiling water like sparky?
If it's similar you'll probably see a less dramatic clearance than SS turbo finings but give it a couple of days and its fine

Re: Has anybody tried this type of finings?
I have no idea on how to use it yet to be honest the description is vague to say the least.
I will post more when known.
edit: upon searching it i think it is a liquid finings which is made by youngs and is made up of 2 60ml bottles where one part is added an hour after the other so time will tell.
The only instructions i could find were:
Contains 2 parts: A) Kieselsol and B) Gelatine (not suiable for vegans).
Stir in A and leave for 1 hour. Then stir in B. Usually works within 2 days. For best results, the liquid should be degassed.

I've used the 2 part finings that Youngs supply to Wilkinsons before, seem much the same as Turbo Klar etc.

Re: Has anybody tried this type of finings?
Well the finings arrived earlier and and the contents are as i posted above 2 60 ml bottles with instructions to add one part then the other an hour later.
It suggests that for 23 litres that you can add 5ml for lightly cloudy 10ml for moderate or 15ml for heavy clouding so i have added 6ml of each to see if i can get 10 washes out of it.
8 hours after adding it seems to be clearing as well as any wash so its so far so good.

Hi
Yep they work well I am happy with how they cleared my last wash they worked maybe slightly slower but after the full 24 hours the results were good i think i was pushing it by only using 6ml for a 26ltr wash but i think i will stick with 6ml doses for now.
They are a decent cheaper alternative than the sachets well worth trying.

Re: Has anybody tried this type of finings?
Just an update now ive used these finings a couple of times.
They dont seem to clear quite as well as the turbo klar or turbo clear but i think thats due to me been quite tight and sticking to the lower doses.
What it does very well though is to dump out a good amount of the sediment within 24 hours and leave you with a perfectly runnable if still a little cloudy wash.
I will try a larger dose on my next wash to see if it clears it completely.
At the moment though i would still say at 59p per wash i will be sticking with it.

Re: Has anybody tried this type of finings?
Sounds like similar results to sparkaloid even if a totally different type of finings. I too use less sparky than the pack says and it works out about 30p a 25L wash.
I find I get a bit of sediment on the sides and the stuff at the bottom is not as stable compared to turbo clears but as you say no problem to run.

I get sediment clinging to the side of the fermenter when I use Sparkolloid and I've found a sharp tap, with a length of 15mm copper, all around the outside of the fermenter and it all drops to the bottom leaving the wash crystal

That's precisely what I do and watch the slow majestic drop to the bottom.... Most satisfying !
I still reckon that the settled yeast is not as stable compared to turbo clear but certainly not a problem for distilling as long as you syphon carefully.
As it happens used some turbo clear I had left over on some classic as I wanted some ready to run over weekend and it certainly does work well but with sparky working out at 30p ish a go its no contest really
