Yeasts
I am new to this game, but i have had maybe a dozen go's using Sugar Wash,Turbo Yeasts and Flavourings, but my last Wash wash that i made was a "Sugar Lentil Wash" and used Bread Yeast, also the only flavouring came from Jack Daniel's Wood Chips, and this last batch has turned out so much better than anything that i have made before,I'm puzzled why, could it be that i did'nt use Turbo Yeast ?,well there is no odd after taste,or sweetness like it had before, could i be right in thinking that the Bread Yeast is better at converting the Sugar to Alcohol,or is it that i have been doing something wrong, and not leaving it long enough.

Re: Yeasts
Not all Turbo yeasts are equal, however they were first developed for fuel production, not for human consumption.
I don't know all the technical terms but basically the high amount of chemicals/nutrients for fast brewing stress the poor yeasties and instead of their poo and pee being fairly clean co2 and alcohols including our beloved ethanol, we also end up with loads of extra smells and flavours
edit : very interesting site that Dave here pointed me at earlier http://learntomoonshine.com/yeast-selec ... fruit-wash

Seriously 0127frey, take on-board Mash's advice in your thread on Turbo Yeast and give the kale wash a try. So simple and clean and quick enough to complete too. Wish it'd been around when I was starting out.
I seldom take myself seriously....

Re: Yeasts
Yeasties for drinking don't like to work hard.
The word Turbo tends to explain why those particular yeasties may not be the best.
I'm glad your Lentil wash came good, other washes are available.
Robert.

Re: Yeasts
I seem to do better with the green allinson's (easy bake) than the yellow (dried active). Not scientific, purely from addled recall.
My lentil washes struggle a bit. The end result is good but they tend to stick. It must be something to do with ph or other factors in my tap water that I haven't got my head round.
I'd love to try kale, but in an apartment I think it is risking divorce in the smell department.
Tomato puree has worked ok but not great for me. Slow but steady.
