Kale Powder

Postby mrbob » Sun May 22, 2016 11:33 pm

Good evening everyone,

Well the local supermarket ran out of Kale (maybe some closet stillers round here) so I went on Amazon and found this kale powder.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/BULK-POWDERS-Kale-Powder-Pouch/dp/B00SX4TAY2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463959420&sr=8-2&keywords=kale

According to the manufacturer it is just made from pure kale leaf so and 10g is supposed to be the same as munching through 120g of the fresh stuff.

Wonder if any of you guys have tried it in the Kale wash? It's only £3.74 at the moment so I've ordered some to try anyway.

Cheers

Bob

That's a new one on me...I buy a large packet of kale and spilt it down into 100gm bags and freeze them for when I want one.

That's not to say this powder won't work...give it a try and keep the forum posted. ;)
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

I don't think there is anything special about kale or lentils or wheat germ or malted wheat or... sugar and water needs SOMETHING to provide nutrients to the yeast. Sugar water is not nutritious for man nor yeast. The question is is cheap, available locally, and unlikely to attract attention. For me, the answer is wheat germ.

Agreed. Kale is the nutrient.

Interesting - would it work the same. I doubt it.

The nutrient affects the yeasts lifestyle (stress, reproduction etc ) and we detect that as flavour.

I also use olive oil as an additional nutrient sometimes and that has imo made a difference.

I am with you on wheat, but converted to kale because it seemed worth the extra trouble.

+ 1 with chill.
I favour Yellow split peas and raisins.
We will all find a "really good one" and try and promote it,it is human nature, just look at what people do to promote their chosen religion.
I might find the god squad door knockers easier to get on with if they were suggesting new washes though ;D

Well it fermented absolutely fine. I included a pH buffer this time as I did have trouble with my last wash. I can't see any real benefits over using this over actual kale except it's maybe slightly quicker and you don't have to throw away anything in the bin.

The clear advantage is that your wife won't grab it and try and feed it to you! ;D

I bet it could be used to make a really quick Consommé type soup, for those of us that like the stuff :o
