It\'s not quite a pan scrubber and they are eye wateringly expensive but...

and

Last friday I ordered one piece of the knitted wire, one piece of ultrafine, one piece of medium and one piece of course and it\'s here today so pretty good service.
The plan is to cut the ultrafine mesh into circles the same size as the column and to drop these in first. I reckon I should get six or seven layers in the bottom, then two stainless scrubbers and finally as much copper knitted wire as I can fit above it.
Can\'t wait to try it out :)

Copper scrubbers in the uk :)

Not a bad idea MrCat, The copper scrubbers I found in a pound shop were 10 for £1, i bought about 6 bags, got them home- thought these would be great, went to stuff them down my column, but they did\'nt feel quite right- or somthing told me they were a bit dodgy, did the old magnet test, and they stuck to the magnet, (I thought i\'d found a new magic ferros copper lol) Took one strand out of the scrubber (Well it was one strand but weaved into a ball about 30m long) chopped a bit off it, had a look under a low powerd microscope, scrapped the surface, and found yep youve guessed it- good old ferros mild steel under it. (Ripped off by a pound shop lol I was tamping !!). I phoned the number on the receipt and complained to head office that the copper scrubber pads or balls they were selling were fake and that no-where on the packaging did it say it was copper plated, They just said bring them back, and we\'ll refund you.

Still false advertising or what. If it says copper scouring pads on the packet, you expect Copper Scrubbing don’t you lol.

As it happens they make the best bottle label remover you can have- Until it rusts away to nothing lol

Anyway

You have me thinking now!

I have access to as much copper as you can imagine in wire form, from a very small fine Diameter up to around 16mm2 cross sectional diameter.
I might have a crack at coiling up the very thin stuff, sort of like a spring but tightish, -- bunch it all up into little-2\" balls if you like, and try them down the column.

We\'ll see next time i have a spare 2weeks lol.

I\'m off now to make some Grappa !! (Prestige essences’ of course !)
