A glass of whisky in Scotland in the thirties cost less than a cup of tea.

Re: local water
Water is quite a big subject. Having read through this report, nothing screams out at me. It would be worth checking the hardness on the website.
Hardness is important - hard water is a lot easier to work with. Temporary hardness can be reduced by boiling and then racking. Soft water in extreme often leads people to Tesco's for bottled water.
water quality is far more important for beer making than it is for spirits.
If it tastes okay, it probably is okay for fermenting.
For spirits production I don't think it will be an issue because you are not drinking the finished product.
If you are concerned about the water at all, the important water is what you cut with. The choices here are is your tap okay, if it is just carbon filter it - everything will be fine. If you are concerned about it buy some bottled water and cut with that.
as far as water treatment is concerned, I am a big fan of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Hard as nails down here too.
I circumvent that by using RO water (£3.50 per 25 litres from a local aquarium shop). It is <50 PPM TDS, so close to distilled water.
I usually use Vodka Star so nutrients aren't a problem. If you like a wine yeast, I work out the numbers for 350 PPM nitrogen using Fermaidk as a guide then just substitute the weight for tronozymol (got both Fermaidk and FermaidO, but they're fuckers to get here, so get saved for wines, meads and ciders).......
Seems to work fine........

Re: local water
My slowly supplied mains water is so soft that it sort of sneaks up on you.
Over the last few years the chlorination has become noticeable,as has the lack of peaty brown colour.Used to be that you may run a bath and think twice about getting into it!
Not all progress is good,IMHO.
Robert.

I'd be focusing on whiskey making in that circumstance
