Stills in the news
Saw this story on BBC News, it made me chuckle - apparently they found ethanol AND alcohol, there's no getting past this lot you know.

"As well as disrupting a criminal operation, from a public safety point of view, we have stopped this poisonous substance from harming anyone."
Translated
We have stopped people enjoying a perfectly legal substance without the said people having to pay a massive 75% tax on it.

"In the past, illegally produced vodka has proved to be extremely hazardous and potentially lethal due to the high concentration of alcohol in the liquid."
THAT is their issue with the alcohol? It's deemed "poisonous" because another time they found some at 80-90%ABV? HELLO! It hasn't been cut yet!
The only thing that really bothers me is the association with drugs. Making shine, even a bunch of it can be no different than a legal distillery as far as quality/safety/etc. But once drugs are added into the picture, as far as I'm concerned, they're just criminals in the public's view. Both are illegal but "illegal vodka" has a different ring to it than "drugs" on the evening news.
Regardless, if they did have "hundreds of gallons", it was no small operation. Look at the reasoning behind it. Alcohol is massively taxed, so you make your own and you can have a cheap drink. Pot is an illegal substance and you can't get it legally. Possessing drugs is all around bad. Period.

'Possessing drugs is all around bad. Period.'
I don’t have an opinion on drugs, I don’t take them because of the job I do, but if things were different I might. One only needs to look back in history to see that only 200 years ago (or less) what are termed 'hard' drugs were infact legal just as is smoking today.
Look at America with Prohibition, times change and so do laws; it seems that everything is ok in moderation. Booze is legal here, but not in other countries, so as we are all human and have the same makeup its obviously not all about health.
Governments demonise everything they are against at the time, including the leaders of foreign countries. They are even targeting buying cheap fake goods (have you seen the handbag advert). You have to be careful of 'social brain washing' some of which is built into soaps like 'The Bill & Coronation Street'
So to sum up - the law is the law, whether you make a little moonshine or grow a little grass. The only difference is how YOU see what’s illegal or not thus you do what you do.

Making a couple of bottles of moonshine for personal use, wont hurt anybody apart from your own liver,.
You can make as much beer or wine as possible in your own home and give it to whom ever you want, but as soon as the abv volume goes over say 25% then its illegal..
You can get just as much drunk from either of the alcohol liquids, whether it be beer wine vodka etc.....
If we all were selling it for profit,or giving massive amounts away, then in my eyes yeh it is illegal, but if i make something and put it into my body thats fair to me..
You can make bio fuel and put it in a vehicle and go out on the road and drive, yet you cant make any for your body
