Alembic Dome as in T500/Grainfather
Some of you have this bit of gear.....any comment to share on operation/effectiveness of set up?
Please. Curious.....

Re: Alembic Dome as in T500/Grainfather
I don't have the actual copper dome and just use the standard T500 lid with the still spirits pot head on the T500, but I'm confident I've read almost every review/watched almost every video of said kit attached to both T500 and grainfather and have good experience without the copper dome.
The copper dome will by having copper in it improve quality to some extent as well as slowing the process a smidge due to shape/increased volume condensation type stuff ie minor minor reflux.
The pot still arrangement on T500 and/or grainfather works fine but most people will suggests a method of power reduction for spirit run.

Thanks Curmudgeon.
I've managed to steal one of these, it occurs to me power reduction will become a high priority.

Re: Alembic Dome as in T500/Grainfather
I have read that it it is theoretically possible to run it too slow and get condensation smearing, but I am kinda cynical.
I run stripping full pace and spirit run on roughly half power (T500). I believe grainfather is about the same with the "big" element turned on.

I'll have to find my half-power switch then.....
I know with my present set up, when I run coloured wash (rum/whisky etc) @ full gallop, coloured in = coloured out. Sometimes with no appreciable diminishment in colour even...

Now,this coloured in/coloured out, I find curious.
The only colored distillate I ever get from pot or reflux still is greeney/blue copper sulphate, occasionaly at the start of a strip run, in a small, 100ml amounts.
Sometimes when I am slow switching off the tails from a spirit run, I can catch more.
I have never managed amber in/amber out
Robert.

I have had slightly cloudy distillate but not coloured. I'd be a bit concerned about that and get Robert to try it before drinking it myself

Dear Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.
This is a mostly respectful site and as a mark of the respect that we extend to members here, rest assured that should Curmudgeon ever send me anything dodgy to check out, then, I in turn will send it on to yourself untested, in order that YOU may be the official tester.
I hope you find satisfaction in this response.
Robert.
