NO,No No to carbon.
Maybe let it sit a while to settle before stilling.

RJ thank you for posting this recipe/method.
I have my first five bottles made now and I'll definitely be making more
as I tasted good even before the oak went in ;D

@ Chefbmack: If you need carbon, I will go so far as to say you stuffed it up.

@Brewhunter: Thanks for that. My pleasure, happy your enjoying it.

@ Brewhunter: Wait till you have some friends over on a nice summer day and knock out some caipirinhas, if you haven't already.

You will need more that 5 bottles on hand.

If I had accidentally forgotten about 20ish litres of this wash that had been hidden under a load of fishing gear in the garage, would it be ok? It was syphoned as soon as it had cleared into 5 x 5 litre water bottles then hidden up a corner, I'm going to have some cleaning / sacrificial runs to do soon so if you think it's dead in the water I'll use it for cleaning rather than making up a wash out of whatever crap is lying round in the kitchen!

@RumJohn
I have yet to start the rhum agricole wash . Being a newcomer to distillation I am only beginning to deviate from the suggested methods for beginners.
Having only followed the included directions with my air still previously I am just learning which steps can be dismissed and which cannot. I appreciate any and all input/tips that come my way.
So far I have had fairly decent results along with a few ...foggy...mornings ;)

@Chefbmack: Input is something you will probably get a lot of. Just don't tray and follow all of it in one go. You already have your feet wet. Keep adding to that. You will find what works best for you.

Would a good handful of raisins be adequate
nutrition source for the yeast,i use it to make
simple mead.
dead yeast,is that boiled to kill then cool
and add to wash. if so how much?
Aim to do 50 liters in 2 25 liter bins.
How many tins or how much t&lG.S.per bin ?

It's always worked for me Gaza, decent handful of chopped raisins & a couple of teaspoons of boiled yeast. The yeast I stir up into maybe a pint of boiling water & same for the raisins in a different jug. Then I go about warming up the syrup & getting it into the bucket, making yeast starters etc.
Don't worry about them being cool because you will need hot water to dissolve the syrup, just drain the raisins & chuck it all in before you add cool water to get to pitching temp for your live yeasties.
I used the cheap tesco syrup, was either 6 or 7 jars for approx 10% potential alcohol in a 23 litre wash

Thanks for info, have used raisins many times
yeasties seem to like them, cheap too.
While we are on subject of yeast, which one.
I have some Vodka star and bakers in stock also
1118 champs, cider and several different wine
yeasts. or buy some of the S.S. Rum.
Don't really like using that horrid black stuff.

I just use plain old bakers, I always use that for boiled yeast because its cheapest. I guess you could ferment with what ever you like but again, plain old bakers for me!
