Tesco's sugar.

As sugar is one of the main ingredients of our hobby, and we generally get a shout about the price every now and then.
I went into Tesco in Warwick this morning and found their 5kg bags of sugar that's usually £3.58....were £2.58...needless to say I picked up 4 bags...

at my local farmfoods its 3 bags/kg for £1.30

I'm working on the cost efficiency of buying/building another shed,just for sugar.
These prices can't last forever,almost 50% less than 15 months ago.
And I keep tripping over the stuff where it is currently piled up against the walls.
Like petrol,it is a commodity,and petrol seems to be going up again......

Petrol.... nah.... the price drop is being caused by yeast.
Some countries grew a lot of extra sugar for bio-ethanol. But the oil price dropped. So it was not worth doing. The extra sugar crop was sold on the open market. This glut caused the sugar price to drop. That drop has caused us to buy it up to ferment it :-)
Who thought such a small organism could have such an effect.

For what it's worth....sugar at Tesco is still £2.58 for 5kg....got another 4 packs this morning, lady on the checkout wondered why I bought so much...told a fib...said I was brewing beer...

If anyone goes to Costco they sell 15 x 1kg bags for £6.55 (44p/KG)
They also sell a 25KG sack that works out a little cheaper per KG but I'm my opinion not worth the risk of it splitting in the car.

Aldi have had 2 kilos for 99p for quite a while now .
