If you are able to overlay the original solder with lead free, then it may be worth the effort.
Just my opinion.

Another question before the real build gets a' rockin'..

My still will be 390mm high and I'm thinking about using a 3/4" x 22mm tap connector for the pipe going up to the condenser for easy dismantling.

What's the minimum height the 22mm pipe should be before the 45 degree downturn to the liebig?

What's the minimum length of the condenser for a still of this size?
Can I run 10mm pipe through a 22mm condensor or is it better to stick with 15mm?

Anyone recommend a good thermometer and seal for the top?
Appreciate any info, thx

1st Q..there's no hard and fast rule on the column height, as seen here (example) in an earlier post you said 200mm column...start with that and see how it sits...is it safe with the liebig fitted??.

2nd Q...For the condenser size?? 18"..if it was me I use 15mm inside 22mm...that way you can reuse the pipe by adding more to make it longer on your next still..nothing stopping you from using 10mm.

3rd Q..Any of the thermometers on Ebay would work, make a thermo port at the top of the column...like we did on the beer boilers...short length of 10mm, solder the end closed, then solder into the column...stick the probe in and away you go.
