What to do with an off run?
Just wondering what you people with more experience than me (which would be just about everyone) would suggest I do with a run I made with my T500 that I find has an off taste. I tried using copper pot scrubbers in my column but didn't notice that it said in fine print that they were coated. Although it didn't say with what I find my Rum has a flavour I really can't put my finger on. I was wondering if I should chuck it or recycle? Thoughts?

If your not happy with it i would dilute it down to 30 abv and re run it. if the off taste you describe is like a chemical after taste then you could try airing the product for about 24 hours,

+1 with re-running it.
Are your scrubbers copper coated steel?
Try a magnet.
Robert.

The unknown coating would make me nervous. I'd put it down the drain and start again.

Checked the scrubbers with a magnet and they are a little magnetic so they are not pure copper for sure. I aired the rum for 24 hours and it lost a lot of the taste so thats a bonus.Maybe run it through a carbon filter?

Re: What to do with an off run?
I suspect the off taste is due to whatever other metal is in the scrubbers, probably steel of some kind, unlikely to be harmful, but if I were in your position, and didn't want to pour it away,I would re-distill and possibly filter.
Then possibly wish I had cut my losses.
I'm sure I read a thread somewhere that advised boiling scrubbers in water before use as they could be covered in oil etc from the manufacturing process.
Sorry,not a very helpful response.

Chuck it out and start again. If its a rum you are working on you wont need scrubbers. If you are having to carbon filter, your picking up something you dont want.
