Do I syphon again after using turbo clear?

Just a quickly, when I have siphoned off my first wash and degassed it. I then use the turbo clear on it, and leave to clear.does this need siphoning off again before I use it in the smart still?

I siphon it again into 12L carboys that I can pick up and pour into the SmartStill. You could also just siphon it directly into the still. The key here is to avoid stirring (or sucking!) up the sediment that has sunk to the bottom.

Normal procedure is that when your wash is finished fermenting you should degas it, sediment and all. Do this at least twice leaving the wash overnight after the second degassing.

If you leave it a couple of days it should clear by itself once all the CO2 has been removed.

Alternatively you can now add turbo clear and when it has cleared you carefully siphon off to a clean fermenter.

Bottom line - you should only have to rack your wash once.

Get yourself a 25lt Auto Siphon(about £13) - brilliant kit and well worth it.

I tend to siphon the liquid off the sediment, then degas, then use a clearing agent if I'm in a hurry or just leave it if not. No particular reason for that, just how I've always done it and it seems to work OK!

Bet you don't use that 'activated carbon' stuff in your wash though?

On my second wash,I tried am's way and rather than rack off then degas, I tried leaving the sediment in and degassed it then added the turbo clear. But it's been 36hrs now and a lot of stuff has dropped to the bottom but the wash still isn't clear! I also noticed while checking that there still seems to be co2 being generated in the wash... What's the best way to rescue this wash? Do I degas again? Can I use another packet of turbo clear?

Can someone help me I've nearly drank all my first batch hehe

Two things help clear a wash better that anything, degas until there's not a single bubble left and get the wash as cool as possible. However, no matter how cold the wash gets it won't clear unless all the CO2 is gone.

If the majority of the shit has dropped I'd leave it alone and let it clear. In these warmer days it could take a week or so to clear completely.

If you're really desperate ( ) you could siphon the wash (again) leaving the settled sediment behind and then toss in another turbo clear.

If the wash is properly degassed but too warm you could try freezing a couple of plastic bottles two thirds filled with water and when they're solid suspend them in the wash to get the temp down - this will take time too.
