I remember using the 3 star Metaxa to light a beach bonfire on a Greek island a long time ago, even in those days I couldn't drink it.
I am told that the 5 star is drinkeable, but have never been tempted to try it. ;)

Oh god, Metaxa......it didn't matter what star it was it was all bloody awful. Knowing what I do now it must be really hard to make a good Greek brandy because the vast majority of Greek wine is not very good compared to anywhere else (imho). How many people in this country drink Greek wine? I'll bet not many, if any. The only time we drink it is on a Greek holiday when there's nothing else available so it stands to reason - crap in = crap out.

I didn't mean to rubbish his favourite tipple but I just remember going on a Greek island hopping holiday in my youth. On the way home we went into a local supermarket to buy some booze coz it was cheaper than duty free. Should've saved my money. I was persuaded by the shop keeper that 7 star Metaxa was superb so bought a bottle. All I remember was it was awful and none of my friends were that desperate that they'd drink it. Just saying, it's only my experience of the stuff. Some people must like it or they wouldn't make it. I was thinking something similar the other day about Brylcreem - who on earth buys it nowadays? Someone must or again, they wouldn't make it.

Do THEY still make Brylcreem, or is it old stock being sold off :D
I have to agree with your take on Metaxa.

no problem......but just a review from the best reviews on whisky and brandies...will leave it there...I really believe if it was produced in Scotland people would love it....because its Greek people diss it..if only people tastes spirits without knowing where they came from.

7 star is a blend of muscat wine and aged cask strength Greek brandy. I love it. :)

OK. After that recommendation, should 7 star become available, I will give it a go.

hmm. Cutting their brandy with Wine. I can see why that would work. That's almost Reverse white port. Nice.
