prestige essences

Postby Spirits4BB » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:46 pm

Not had much time of late to dabble around with brewing but getting going again..
Thing is, I was thinking about ordering some grains for beer brewing from The homebrewcompany and I noticed they sell prestige essences and wondering if anyone has used them??
Tizz a good opportunity to get a few flavourings whilst trying to get it over £70.00 for free delivery, as we tight people do. 8)

I don't use them...but I believe a couple of guys on here do and they are happy with the results...give them a go.

If you drink your spirits neat, you may not like them. If you drink with mixers then they may be palatable. I like mine neat and have found very few of the essences to be something that I enjoy drinking. The only ones I have found OK are essences of things that I have never sampled the real version of. There may be a link there. ;)

I found them poor. Still spirits are much better. If you are just ordering grains that is a lot of dingo dollars. Mine are 28 ish per sack. Crisper from the malt miller

Just my opinion, but the Prestige gin essence (before I started making mine Odin's way) was very acceptable.
I still find the Prestige rum essences acceptable, but would add that maybe more so than the Still Spirits ones, they really do need a week after mixing before drinking.

Good point Robert. They both need to stand before drinking.

That might be why I did not care for any. My method was pour, shake, guzzle.

I've used quite a few of the Prestige essences and found them to be mostly pretty good.

Prices have come down, most of them through your link seem to be £1.40 where I was paying £1.75

My local homebrew shop sells the Still Spirits range (between £3.75 and £3.99 but makes 3 bottles), so that's what I'm now using. Just as good, and sometimes better.

They do all benefit from leaving for a few days after mixing.

I recently bought some Via the online retailer beginning with A.
Came in at 97p/750ml mixed bottle. Shipped.
Just sayin'

The Pestige Mississippi Essence is Southern Comfort, I can recomend it with 100gr of Sugar topped up to 1litre with neutral.
