That Little Tick!

Postby Toper » Sat May 28, 2016 1:45 pm

Having yesterday cleared my decks and done the preparatory work, I got up at 05.30am to start on a mammoth mashing session.

Given weakness of arm (I have a small hand mill), and lungs which react like litmus paper to the dust thrown up when milling grain, I always order my malt ready ground.

Alas! I had omitted to tick the box when ordering. I now have three 25 kg bags to mill before I can proceed further.

On with the filter mask.

You would be a good man to ask if precrushed is any better then...
Does it keep better or taste any better?

I can't admit to discerning any difference in taste but, reputedly, whole grain keeps better for longer than crushed.

12.5 kg down, 62.5kg to go.

Would I had such a right arm! Alas for bygone adolescence.

The first 25 kg done.

Due to space, equipment and method, I will be doing a 4 x 23 litre mash before starting on the next 25kg bag.

That's a decent vista you have to endure while you slave away :)
