Afternoon all

I\'m new to homebrew and of course to stills.
Never really fancied doing home brew until one of my mates gave ne some of his home made cider and he told me how much hassle it had been so I set about researching into juice extraction to help him out. Along the way I found out about spirit distillation and that interested me. So here I am.
I picked up a SS reflux from wineworks and now in the porcess of getting it as efficient as I can thanks to the tips and advice I\'ve been given here (thanks Opus)
I really like this hobby - where else could you have 12KG clear bags of tasteless white power posted to you and not be worried about it !!

This is a a great site, I wish I had found it before my first few attempts with the Smart Still.

The site is full of very savvy and friendly people.

That\'s why it\'s not so easy to get dextrose/glucose in quantity Johnny, because it\'s also been used for "cutting" class A narcotics....
Hence why most of the still spirits and other "guidance" suggest just using straight table sugar.....

Hi everyone, The names Mark. Ive been making wine and beer for years. Been dipping in and out of this forum since I found it a couple of months ago. I became a newbie to air stills 12 months ago, lots of errors. . I am impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness on this site so decided to Join. Lots of questions to ask ( in the right area of course). Ive only managed 3 batches since I bought it due to time constraints and and a wife that doesnt like smells in the kitchen. Now my neighbor is at it and he has a shed with power, so off we go.

Hello all

I\'m putting the cart before the horse \'cos I haven\'t bought my Smart Still yet. I\'ve been too busy reading everything that I can find on the subject after seeing one in the local homebrew shop - and it is on the list for next week\'s shopping trip

I\'ve been making wine for a good few years and thought that I should try my hand at something different.
This place seems to be a very good place to start and all the posts that I\'ve read here are very informative and friendly....and I know that I\'ll be coming back time and time again.

Hi Tufty

Welcome to the best hobby in the world,if you have not tasted home distiled spirits before?,you will be amazed when you get to taste your first batch.With your wine making experience you will find it easy to do,one bit of advice I would give is to do your first couple of washes as it says on the still instructions i.e take only the first 700mls of the run to get the hang of it,then if you want to have a bit of a play like most of us do like stipping runs/spirit runs.Never be afraid to ask advice on here as we are a friendly bunch and we are all on a learning curve,one of us will answer any question(unlike the other site where you will be made about as welcome as a fart in a space suit).

Yoo Hoo from DownUnder. I\'m new to this distilling business, but I have been brewing cans of beer for almost a year - now onto our 40th batch of 23 litres - so I thought I\'d give distilling a go. The Brew Shop recommended (probably because I am a blonde female!) the new Turbo T500 setup - and it was on special - so I bought the whole lot! lol. My first wash has had Part 2 of the Turbo Clear added, and I am just waiting for it to clear. I cant wait!! Hubby is away, and not due back for 2 weeks, so I want to have a batch done, and the whole still put away!! I cant believe that the cost of your own Spirits is the same, if not cheaper, than your own beer, for a Standard Drink (whatever that is!!)I went to the pub last night and paid the same for a shot, as it would be to make 2 litres of 40%!! (I\'m originally from Yorkshire, so that explains a lot!)

Hi Legless, you will enjoy the T500 and what it produces - To answer your question about taste, well that has a lot to do with what flavors you use LOL

I find that after adding the flavoring its best to wait at least 2 weeks (but you can drink straight away) for best results.

Where in AU are you? I am in Brisbane.
