If you havn\'t already, check out the above site, one of the best video descriptions of the distillers art I have seen.
Tomintoul is where I spend my Summer holidays on the Glen Livet estate.
Ciao.

Yes, not a bad explaination of how it\'s done at all is it........
Tomintoul isn\'t a whiskey that I\'ve come across, but there\'s lots of those as I can drink a malt when I can afford it! but otherwise I prefer more of the european tastes - maybe because from where I am, it\'s closer to Paris than it is Plymouth........
Hey ho!

No more can I afford some of these legendary \'Malts\'
But it\'s a bl--dy good hobby trying to replicate them!
Funny you should say that, I\'m not a bit whiskey fan (American type whiskey for preference), but I did manage to once get one of the more expensive Prestige flavourings (about £3 instead of the usual £1.50 area) that said it was like a single malt.........j
It was, a friend and me sat there supping it and it really did taste similar to Glenlivet, but the next time I ordered it, it tasted different. So it got me wondering about the quality control of the makers and whether they can manage to consistently replicate, of whether it\'s a bit "hit and miss".
For consistency, it does seem that the still spirits classic range is better than most i.e. the tennessee sour mash always seems to manage to taste the same etc, whereas some of the Prestige ones, not so......
Maybe it\'s just me!

Hey Phantom,
As it happens I just opened a Still Spirits Classic Premium Finest Reserve Whisky (bit of a mouthfull)
You get two sachets in the box. I have used similar ones before and they say to put it into 1.125 Litres. I always thought they were a bit insipid so this time I have put it into just 1 Litre of 50% double distilled, It certainly has a pleasant peaty / oaky smell, but I\'m going to let it sit around for a while before I sample.
Ciao.

Not tried that one Ronbo but anything that might help to get a better whiskey can't be a bad thing!
I usually use the SS classic range anyway, as I've tried some of their "top shelf" ones (being cheaper) and in a lot of cases they haven't really "cut the mustard". The "classic" range ones seem a lot better - shame that they're only to be made up as 1.125 or 2.25 ltr batches. Be handy as hell if they'd make them for 750ml size mixes.......
Keep us informed how it comes out though, that'd be a handy tip (probably in the essences/flavourings thread
