I know this has been discussed here before, but there seems to be different opinions on if it's a bad idea or not to destill beer.

I just got 5 cases (40 liters) of german pilsner 8% abv, past it's expiration date. It is still fine, but I'm not a big beer drinker and I want to give it two rounds in my smartstill, throw some oak chips in there and see what happens.

Not worth the hassle? Yes or no.

It is going to taste like whiskey with hops in it. I've done this before and decided that I did not like it. If you are not going to drink the beer, or trade it for some sugar , then you might as well run it and see if you like hopped whiskey or not.

Don't forget to de-gas it first

I don't recall degassing it, other than pouring it into the still rapidly. And don't forget to add some distiller's conditioner or drop of oil or something as it will tend to foam.

A paint stirrer attached to an electric drill does wonders

A stick blender will also work.

also a hand whisk works ...the type where you turn the wheel with handle
