Broken Bottles of Rum :(

Postby MrCat » Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:28 pm

I ordered some rum from an oninie store called urbandrinks.co.uk. Only after I ordered them did I find out the company was in germany and it would take a while to ship them here.

I've been waiting about 9 days for 3 really nice bottles of rum to arrive and tracking them on their journey. The g/f was out when they came to deliver but she rang the company and they nipped back to deliver them

Then she had to ring me to tell me that she had had to reject the shipping as it was leaking rum everywhere.

It's travelled 1,000 odd miles safely in the hands of UPS shipping - then when it gets to 7 miles from my home some arsehole just throws it in the back of a van and breaks it....

Not a good end to what had shaped up to be a good week...

That sucks! :'( I hope you have a drop of your own to console you. As I like rum myself, what had your ordered?

Ouch! I know that Havana Club. If you like dark rums, Gosling's Black Seal is worth watching out for.

I've never tried the Havana Club that didn't make it here. I've got the 7 Anejos and the Seleccion de Maestros.

Quite partial to Goslings - I've got the black seal, black seal 151 and the Family Reserve Old rum which is probably one of my top five rums. It's got a fantastic molasses taste to it :)

"black seal 151 and the Family Reserve Old" Now you are just making be jealous! All the liquor we get in Canada is imported by the government. So the selection is less than great. Importing them attracts punitive taxes. I will keep an eye out for those on my next trip to the US.

What about if a bottle is brought in in checked baggage on a plane??

I have some relatives in the Calgary area who are over here in a few months so if they are under their weight allowance I might be able to get one in and get them to post it to you.

Heard back from the company that I bought the rum from. It was the Zacapas that were broken. They managed to trash the two most expensive bottles in the shipment. It was also the last of that set the shop had as they are very limited stocks so they've done me a deal for the 30 anniversary and a 23 cask strength which are in the post to me right now.

Just got an el dorado 21 yr old rum today. Incredible. If you get a chance to try it then do - it has an incredibly long finish to it. On my second glass now :)

Took a photo this week of my rum shelf. This it the top 15 (the Gosling Family reserve should be in #5 but the box the bottle is in is too big for the shelf. Enjoy !!

That is one delicious looking shelf! WOW is all that I can say.

Bottles in checked luggage are usually OK, I bring back bottles like that when I travel. The dubious part is Canada Post from Calgary. They won't even accept it if they hear the liquid. So I will thank you for the kind offer, but decline in the interest of preserving the fine rum's life. ;D

I will keep an eye open for the El Dorado.

They eventually all arrived.

I've tried a glass of the Havana Club tonight. Initially I wasn't impressed but there is a depth of taste there that I need time to explore.

I've now got a glass of the Zacapa 23 barrel strength - it's now my favourite rum. Two sips was all it took. It's just like the normal 23 except with a much 'bigger' taste. Incredible :)

With your favourite

Do you drink it more often because it is your favorite?

or

Do you save it for special occassions and therefore drink less of it?

All the rums taste slightly different so I tend to pick one that matches my mood. Some days I like a large molasses hit, some days I want something sharp, some days something smooth etc.

I tend not to drink more of my favourite than my other ones.
