Keeping your shrapnel clean

Postby Brewhunter » Sun Jan 31, 2016 11:02 am

Okay so before using coinage in my runs I cleaned them up with citric acid but they've since turned ugly again, is there anyway to keep them clean and shiny or does it not matter ???

I've read somewhere keep them in a jar covered with neutral...I must admit I bung mine in citric for a short time, rinse then bung them in.. ;)
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

Maybe the fores could be useful if rinsed before use then?

It needs acid. A heads run will clean them right up!

I don't like to disagree with chill, but the most acidic wash most people experienced I thought was a strip?
Maybe I is wrong, maybe chill has had a few.

I don't really know why, but it seems to work. Might be the baking soda breaking the ethyl acetate back into acid and ethanol? Or it could be some other reaction entirely.

As Freddie Mercury sang, "It's a kind of magic" - works for me.
We need more mystique on this forum or everyone will learn how to make decent alcohol at home!

I would agree, that is why everyone trys adjusting with a backset inclusion. The acids are left in the boiler.

I would disagree that home distilling is magical. There is enough knowledge out there to get it right, you just gotta learn to cut, I can't tell you how to do that over the internet although.

I can attempt to, with a few tricks, but, as long as you are not bound by what you read on the internet.

It is a huge oxymoron.

Catch 22.

And so it is! I did a heads run today and the pH at end was as high as I could measure. And the coins were not bright and shiny. Science is restored but now I am wondering what it was that I ran that cleaned them up so nicely. Tails tomorrow, maybe it was that? Though I don't see how. I will pay more attention the next time they are left all clean.

There is something Chill. I have took mine out of something shining, but can't remember now.

I have put mine in some waste vinegar. Let's see!
Previously used citric but that wasn't stunning.

Once upon a time I had shiny Copper boil bits.
Now they are dull and lifeless.
Whoops,I have strayed into hair product territory.
Citric, after a Spirit run is my usual,it helps but is not as good as I would hope.
