EZFilter
Hi All,
I am new to this and about to launch into distilling for the first time. I have plenty of beer brewing experience but this is all new to me. I was looking at buying the T500 still from Still Spirits which come as a kit with the EZFilter. After reading some info online I realise that the filter is a very important part of the process.
Is this filter what I want or am I best to go away from the 'kit' setup and look at something else?

Instead of thinking about methods of removing bad tastes from your spirits. Think about methods of making spirits that do not have bad tastes.

Sounds like a good theory but remember, I have never done this before so I am really just starting at level 1.

That title is a function of the number of posts I have made usualy about building stills, in reality I too am a relatively inexperienced distiller. But in the short time that I have been in production, the advice on this and other forums with regard to not pushing for maximun alcohol content and recovery has proven to be correct.
Vodka Star is a yeast that seams to be highly recomended on this forum. To see what I thought about it, I recently did three batches using Vodka star and varying amounts of sugar.
The instructions state that the yeast and nutrient is designed to give you a clean tasting spirit using 6Kg of sugar, but then goes on to say that it can be improved by only using 5.5kG of sugar.
I tried both and the difference was very noticeable.
One of the goals I set myself when I started out was to produce spirits without the need for filtering and I am still heading in that direction, admitedly some have needed distilling twice. But it is cheaper and I think more fun to distill twice than to use a filter.
I appreciate the attraction of the filter and if it suits your needs then go for it. There are lots of threads on the site about them and I am sure that people with actual experience of them wll be explaining in more detail.

My vodka friends seem happy with the result of a double distill and filter on a 7kg vodka star
Might try the 5.5kg option though
