Steaming the Fan motor
I couldn't find a "complete stupidity" category, so I've put this in "general chat"
For reasons I won't bore you with, I boiled my AirStill dry today - with the fan unit resting upside down in it.
On a positive note, The fan motor, fins and condensercoil is really clean now. I can also confirm the cutout switch on the front does work !!
A lot of hairdryer, tissue and WD-40 has recovered the dripping wet fan unit. luckily I had had one apart before so new what to expect.
Aa Stanley blade levered off the 1p's and 2p's peas which had welded themselves to the base as well!
I would not recommend this as a way of cleaning your still.

On the bright side, it seems there was no permanent damage.

Seems they are pretty robust then. Had the top off mine before now, my only worry was the longevity of the holes the fan screws go into.
Wasn't a timer issue was it, Mash?
Cheers
