Big Question
So, here is a question for existing members that are currently able to post.
Accepting that this forum is currently in the last months of it's life, mainly due to it's lack of activity and the impossibility of accepting new members, and fearing the loss of all the good information archived here...
IF...
A new forum very much like this one was started, would you join it?
A forum that strived to be as friendly and shaped as this one, but with more of a future?
A forum not owned by, nor even moderated by myself,- I would support it,- but I will care-take this one to the bitter end.
I think the intention could/should be to "mirror" the format here.
Sadly, all the posts here would be left behind.
Any volunteers to grab a topic, from here, read it start to end and cut and paste any worthwhile parts to an archive section on a new site?
To keep the information available....
Any volunteers to make a donation for server costs?
This is all hypothetical. Someone would need to step up and take it on, and figure how we would not end up in the same mess again.
The way I see it, my duty is to this forum, not Jimmy, wherever he has gone.
I don't think that he would object to me saying this.
I don't see any time for commitee style chat here.
I could be saying, very quietly, goodbye to you all soon,
Just a simple question - are you interested?
Robert.

Re: Big Question
Hi Robert
Great post. I wouldn,t mind having to pay for such a good forum but I dont have the time or experience to set up this kind of forum. I would try to support whenever I was available whoever took on this kinda project. Best of luck.
Regards

Re: Big Question
Thanks, Ruunningman,
Yours was the kind of response that I had hoped for.
It doesn't mean that I don't hope for a little more from those that can.
My wish is to see this forum, or one very like it, continue.
To help newbies not poison themselves, and give us all a place to blether and refine what we do.
Robert.

Re: Big Question
It does look likely that this site will time expire sometime in 2020, therefore we should be looking at the possibility of getting something in place for that eventuality.
I would be in favor of starting a site with a similar address and transferring as much as possible over, then putting a redirect to it from this site. I would be happy to donate to a start-up fund.
If there was a new site I would hope that we learned from the problems we are having on the present site, and if possible have 3 or 4 members with owner’s rights. I have run a number of F/B & Yahoo groups where this is possible but don’t know if it is possible for wed sites.

Thanks for that Pyro.
It prompts me to state that while the Domain name (Still Smart) is paid up to February 2020., I really don't have a date when the Server fees expire, the dates may not coincide.
The server may be switched off anytime from now until then, and then we are history.

Re: Big Question
Great idea, happy to donate to set up and support.
I,m not very computer minded so not much help but would make an effort to "chat" to support a forum.

Re: Big Question
LOL,
At least some support is lining up behind the idea.
If we can get some more onboard then I may know just the arm to twist to get this off the ground.

Re: Big Question
Happy to be involved in what ever way I can - it would be an awful shame to lose the resources we have here.
