Caculating ABV

Postby Admiral Toad » Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:50 am

Come across several ABV calculators on the web all of which seem to give different answers
Latest wash was 26 litres started 1150 ended 982 and I am getting any thing from 17.5% to 22%
Which is the best calculator or method and what should the ABV be on this (all at about 24 degrees cel)

I am yet to find 2 that do the calculation the same way, whatever the correct answer is, that is a very high alcohol content, if the yeast do manage to convert all that sugar, there will be stress, and it wont be the cleanest of ferments - be prepared for off flavours, a bit less sugar will improve the quality.

Try it both ways to see if you can tell, and what you prefer.

Yeah running now def not as clean tasting as triple distilled on 6 and a bit kg
Will filter for sure and use for whisky type mixes I guess
Will try 7 kg next time but must say yeast performed well got a vodka star to run Sunday and have followed that to the letter
Most interesting this !i
