happy with my T500

Postby brummel » Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:45 pm

Been using it for a year or so and other than making up a wee manifold with 2 washing machine taps, 1 to turn the water on and off, the 2nd to set and leave to take the pressure off the needle valve. I t seems to do exactly what it says on the box,
I do put things through twice one fast one slow, so have a pothead in the offing to speed that up

I love mine too. So much that finishing my diy still is at the bottom of the project list.

I only run once but very slow and don't filter. Chains me to the kitchen most Sundays but having the net makes it ok, I'd be surfing or watching movies anyway.

does take a while dosnt it, the up side is u get all your bottles sterlised and get the good of all that hot water. I am plumed in to my dishwasher feed and a manifild betyween there and the needle valve, It helps a lot, the needle valve is a lot less fiddly with less preddure behind it, i can now flush the loo etc without any change.
I fancy a go at gin, so the pothead would be for that too

Just wondering why are you sterilising bottles ??? 40%+ isnt going to let anything grow in there. We're not making beer or wine.

A rinse out to stop the last contents contaminating the taste is all that is needed.

Ah cool, I didn't get that from your post. Just thought you'd carried a beer makers mantra into the filthy world of distilling. ;D

The only thing I've used VWP for in the last 2 years is to clean the stains from my kitchen sink.

Once the run is started, I clean the fermenter with cold water and make up a new wash.

I don't sterilise my collections jars or storage DJ's & Kegs for the same reason Cap'n C said but I do rinse with cold water to remove any residue.

And another plus 1 to the lazy, crazy, hectic days of knowing the provenance of your brew and glassware.
If it is new to me it gets washed in household bleach;Otherwise it gets sniffed and possibly rinsed,as will have been done on last useage.
I think this was the part of the process that finally put an end to my beer and wine making; sterilising and rinsing bottles,- life is too short to do it in your spare time.
Maybe one day when I am older and greyer, and afternoons are measured out with coffee spoons,I'll give it another go.
Robert.
There is no ONE way.

Me too, got a beer kit that's over a year old. Can't be bothered with the sterilise and rinse routine plus the sore back after syponing into the bottles.

Well I used 120 quids worth of brambles this year, not going to risk loosingit for want of sterlising.
Aye thin household bleach is fine too
