best tea urn boiler?

Postby Curmudgeon » Sun Oct 09, 2016 11:37 pm

reading the archives here and on other sites, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Burco-MFCT1030 ... B004EAERSS got a lot of mentions.

Is it still the best for the job? It's a good £100 cheaper than a T500 boiler and I'm guessing the single central lid handle makes drilling a hole for a head/condenser easier than models with a handle that has two holes?

I'd prefer something that a teflon seal would fit to avoid using a paste, but it's not obvious to me what diameter lids are or what gaskets would fit.

Not the one that I have, but it certainly floats my boat.
Apparently the lid lock design is even better now.
I am tempted to buy as a backup.
It does mess with my intention to throw out an item a day to minimise possessions...

http://www.stillsmart.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3926 was the previous thread I read here. I just need to find an unemployed plumber who will take payment in alcohol to put together a head and condenser for me.

bumping thread.

I'm pretty sure this is almost identical to T500 boiler except for the lid and is £100 cheaper.

What size of hole would I need to drill is the obvious question?

Less obvious is does anyone know if the lid will carry the weight of a T500 copper alembic pot head?

I am sure the lid will carry the weight of what you wish to mount.
I have no idea of the size of hole you need.
A jigsaw and appropriate SS cutting blade may be the way to go, it worked for me.

Having trawled the various sites, I'm pretty sure a 2" / 50mm hole is what I need and that a https://www.stilldragon.eu/en/adapters/364-2-inch-tri-clamp-weldless-bulkhead-fitting.html is the posh version of what I want if I don't choose to directly attach a still spirits pot head.

Edit: I'm still thinking this boiler at £100 less than T-500 boiler and adding the still spirits T-500 type pot still head gives me a complete still for £200 not counting power controller and is good value with minimal construction?
