Sugar on sale!!! (and my deal)

Postby goinbroke2 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:46 pm

So, sugar is on sale here two 2.2kg bags for $3.00 at both Sobey\'s and SuperStore. So I bought 32bags (16 bag limit per customer)
Well I\'m all happy with a truck load of sugar on the way home and stop and talk to a buddy of mine. He see\'s the sugar in the back seat and asks the obvious questions.

He said if you want that much sugar, why don\'t you just buy it in bulk? Well, you have to be a restaurant or a business of some sort to buy at the warehouse.

\"I got a business, DUH!\" he says. So we drive over to the warehouse and check pricing for a pallet of sugar. $.40 per kg and there is 360 bags per pallet or 792kg which is

$316.80 per pallet! Holy crap that\'s CHEAP! I don\'t really NEED a pallet of sugar just yet so I say I\'m just pricing. I told the guy at the warehouse I was making beer, he asks if I can use spilled sugar. HUH? \"in the loading dock in the middle there was a spill of sugar, if you want it shovel it up\".
I backed in the old f-350 4 door and proceeded to shovel about a yard of sugar into the back. Did I mention..FREE!

Went to buddy\'s place and he has a bunch of plastic 45gal drums so we filled 2 and a little bit!
This weekend I\'m emptying my 121L fermenter (it should be done) and starting a new batch in that and in the 45 gal drum he gave me.
At this rate I\'ll be a while before I do an all grain batch to practise before going legal.
WOOHOO! can you say SCORE!!!!! (second time I\'ve scored free spilled sugar hehehe)

There\'s results like that to be had, just that you usually need to be in the right place/right time etc.
Me, I usually end up in the local Lidl and it usually works out about 75p a kilo. I\'m still trying to find a way of getting a Bookers account so I can keep an eye on their prices - sometimes it\'s very cheap. I haven\'t got any way of going for the pallet full as I don\'t have any way of storing that much, but I could probably store 100kg or so........

Ok...there\'s a downside...I washed the outside of the barrels and the ground around the barrels and cleaned everything up.
I swept out the back of the truck when I was filling the barrels(I have a plastic bedliner) but I never washed it......yup, got in my truck this morning and noticed black all over the garbage can I threw in last night. It was..ah...moving..

Holy crap, the box of my truck is FULL of ants! So I went to work (hmmm going 140km\'s doesn\'t blow them out) used the pressure washer to clean the box/tailgate/garbage can and spayed for 10 minutes washing ants down the drain. After work I stopped by my buddies place and the barrels were clean and dry (WHEW!)
I guess one good thing is I must of cleaned out every ant hill in the neighbourhood! LOL!
Unfrickenbelievable...whole box looked like it was moving....something out of a horror movie...
