Oh, I've avoided it as much as possible for many years.

For example I use sodium bicarb instead of antiperspirants. You still sweat naturally as you should, but your pits are too alkaine for the bacteria that like to live off your sweat to thrive. So you don't smell, as it is the bacteria not the sweat that causes the smell.

Stings and burns if you chafe and expose broken skin though.

Only happened once and bearable until I could clean it.

This is getting way off track now. But I have used rubbing alcohol (99% if you can get it) for decades now. Rub a couple of tsp under each arm and the bacteria are dead.

This thread simply grew legs and climbed from the swamp.
Someone on here,sorry mate forget your name,(John;John51?)has been using fores/heads as an antiperspirant for a while.
Just tested the PH on today's heads run,around 6.
Sodium Bicarbonate I believe is around 8.5.
Not being a chemist or biologist,I simply find it interesting that it is alkali that kills bacteria.
Live and learn.
If I don't fall asleep,I'll see if I can split this post,and move the later comments from the original thread.

Sorry mates,that was a first time and took forever.I now sort of understand why some other mods don't do proper tidy ups and shout at users instead.
I cannot now even rename the title to the thread.

Crystal refers to methamphetamine.

I don't rub either of those in my pits.

I do have IPA (rubbing alch also screen cleaner) so I may try that as well.

At 6 your heads are slightly acidic.

Ipa usually is as well. I use it in titrations and remember having to blank the ipa first with a drop or two of sodium hydroxide.

Maybe acidic works too or it is some other property such as dehydration at work. Dunno.

Discovered that the crystal deodorants sticks are ammonium alum.
don't know if that is good or bad but there must be a few folks using it ... there's a lot on ebay.

All commercial AP, DOs are bad as far as I know. Poularity is no measure of safety either.

Sodium bicarbonate is a baking ingredient.

Also used with vinegar to make unconvincing pseudo volcanic displays to entertain kids. Presumably kids who have never heard of Sony or Microsoft.

Potassium Permanganate and glycerol produce a safe but more impressive pseudo volcanic display. Since we are already OT.
