Peated malt....is there any out there ?

Postby Admiral Toad » Mon Sep 21, 2015 8:32 pm

Been trying to get hold of some pleated malt from the usual suppliers but there doesn't seem to be any about

Any of you guys know where I can get some at the moment ?

Going to try and sweetheart the brewer lad I know who got some from Simpsons but that's not guaranteed

Mate, I get mine from Craftbrewer in Brisbane, Australia (in fact I bought some heavypeated a few days ago). It is Bairds Malt, from Inverness (as far as I can tell); so.....surely it can be bought 'locally'? ???

No AT,it has been on my shopping list for a small while now.
Good friends wish to buy me a sack.
Altruistic reasons,I am sure....
It seems that it is all being exported for Frank's benefit!

You could try here http://www.geterbrewed.com/chateau-whisky/ not sure what it will be like, but at that price its got to be worth a punt. I know some of the lads on the brewing forums have tried the pale malt from there with mixed results.

Not the best price wise I guess but

Says in stock at least, doesn't give any info on diastatic power or phenol concentration though

Thanks optic, that one is definitely worth a punt.
The postage at £5.95 is not too bad from Antrim, and 25Kg delivered to Me in Scotland @ £28.56 seems like a steal to me.
Just as well really,as the big red "service unavailable" page which appeared having placed an order caused me to re-order,and my account page with the site now shows two sacks of this ordered!
Ho hum, some serious grain distilling in the offing then,I still have the 25 Kg sack from a different Irish supplier to deal with from an earlier hot post this year, and lack of time.
It will give me something to do on these lengthening autumn nights,LOL.

Will be interested to know what the malt is like, I've been tempted to have a go myself as I love a peaty whisky, have been put off just encase it taints the mashtun . But even so thinking about it I can use my old redundant coolbox mashtun, there's no way I'm going to risk using peated grain in my 60 litre thermopot tun that I use for brewing my Ale .

Bit late but... http://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.ph ... Submit=%C2%A

But I have to say well done optic. Looks like a good site.

Looking forward to hearing the results.

That does work out a bit pricey though but you can rest assured of its quality coming from that source . He did a while back have it available in 25 KG sacks at a good price, which was apparently in the Laphroaigh territory for peatiness, if you are interested it would be worth giving Rob AKA the malt miller a ring, hes a good bloke and pretty sure he would obtain some more if he new there was a market .

Get er brewed do indeed seem to be a good bunch.
They emailed me at 7.30 this morning to ask if I really wanted a double order!
With service like that they can expect another order.
