Another jd chips question

Postby Corps012588 » Tue Mar 25, 2014 9:00 am

Hiya guys.
Just finished another large lentil wash.
Strange thing is this one has some bite at the back of the throat!
Spirit run
50ml fores
350ml heads
Rest smelt fine up to 1ltr
Didn't collect tails.
The 1ltr combined was 75%
Watered down to 45%.
Tasted and has the bite mentioned above.
I've put it on jd chips in the hope it may help.
My question is would these chips actually mellow the spirit if left for some time?
It's drinkable but would like to lose the bite/burn
Thanks in advance

IMO you made the heads cut too early. For a 4L run in the Airstill, I would expect 450 - 550 ml of heads. You MUST do this by taste, you can NOT measure this.

Ah sheet!!!!!
So what are your thoughts on the mellowing side of things?
Will the heads burn or whatever it is ever mellow?

The heads will burn. Wild Turkey Bourbon tastes strongly of heads after five years of aging. Deal with it, or re-distill it.
