cracked corn, poultry feed

While i intend to mash barley, i also quite like the idea to cook some corn and treat it with enzymes or a handful of barley too, would the above be suitable or will it be adulterated in some way making it unsuitable (vitamin/mineral spray?)
at £15 a 25kg sack its half the price of delivered malted crushed barley
wots the catch?

Good find Fil, according to the site all their products are non medicated, seems a decent price though, might get myself a bag, I know its not the same quality as the stuff you get from the states, as ours is grown mainly for livestock. iv'e always thought about doing an ujsm style.sticking my 60ltr barrel in the back of the cupboard and letting 25-30ltrs chug away. It might be a case of using more corn per recipe.

Pure fluke too it was a mis slip of the mouse with a autofill google search, i had looked before and google had remembered the search and listed it when i typed a C in and i selected the wrong previous search from the list ..
Seemed too good to be true.. if your taking a punt on some tho, i may too
So its not quite the same quality, any idea what that means in cooking terms? less starch to convert needing more grain? or tougher to cook down needing longer heat application?? its the UJSM i too would like to try.. as a brewer i have malted grain so adding enough to convert the cooked out starch when its cooled to mashing temps isnt a problem and i can mash in an insulated tun to retain the heat for an overnight conversion, and im quite happy fermenting on the grain too to get every last bit out if needed.
Tho i am a bit nervous fermenting without a sanitising boil out of the tun..
I guess the first cook n mash would reveal its true potential.

Fil,
I have only done a few AG mashes, count them on two hands, but overnight conversion strikes me as a little excessive.Happy to be corrected,I thought it happened faster.
Your mention of a sanitising boil also caught my eye. These days I add enough yeast that a 12% O.G. wash is done in 3 days, settled out in a day or two,I don't worry too much about bugs and wild yeast;my water is simply filtered rain water.
My current mindset is that longer fermentations are a recipe for problems.
I am always happy to learn, but am aiming for the simplest procedure that experience teaches me.
Robert.

I buy mine here http://www.redmills.ie/ie/horse/product ... ct/?id=574 they are a major manufacturer and exporter of feeds and this particular product is just Maize with zero additives or preservatives, which is vital. Works fine too but messy, working with Maize/Corn is a serious pain in the butt.
This product costs just €15 over here.
