Running Beer

Postby v4mpy » Sun Apr 05, 2015 5:31 am

I'm able to have access to beer which has been around a few days, which is unable to sell to customers.
Running it through the T500 seems fine, nice clear product with some flavour that carries through.
After about 5 runs or so, of 21 litres a run the product is coming out a light yellowish colour.
I'm assume and now are cleaning the column back to it's former glory.
As the beer is coloured with various colours from light larger through to a full brown should I clean it after a couple of runs and is long term use of beer going to damage the column?

I used to do all ullage. The crap was amazing. Cold clean with Citric acid solution and yes a bit more often.

No harm such come to your still.

Great mashy, I was starting to think I should do a strip run through a pot still first.
Problem with that is I don't have a pot still.

You could try with no packing at all.

I guess you'd need to still run water through to protect the top cap.
Any idea what the % out might be?

I seem to behaving the same problem even after cleaning the column and repacking it with fresh SS scrubbers.
Still getting a whisky colour through.
I'm running the T500 on top of a 80ish litre boiler which has a 3kw element.
I'm wondering if it's the 3kw element that's giving me the problem as I can't adjust the wattage.
I'm thinking the T500 isn't able to relux properly before the product comes out.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think you might be onto something wit the boiler. Can it cope? Not just the wattage but also the volume of vapour?
