Sound of silence

Postby Icefever » Sat Apr 30, 2016 6:17 am

OK I know music is an emovtive subject...you like what you like...please bear with me on this.. ;)

This week the radio 2 record of the week was "Sound of silence"....when I first heard it I thought WTF have they done to a great song from my youth. :'(

I heard it another couple of times over the week and I started to listen to it properly...well how wrong was I..(bow head in shame).

When I got home last night I found it on youtube and played it for the wife...she was blown away as well, she said "they've turned a classic into a new classic"

See what you think :-\ Link

First listen very different, but very emotional.

If it all the same to you Ice I will wait another 10 mins before playing it to the wife :)

I don't profess to be an avid music lover, I like easy listening whilst I drive.

I must admit I didn't recognise the artist singing, but that rendition was great, and with the video brings a new meaning to the words.

I found it to be a different and very acceptable version of a song that I thought could not be covered, - the original harmonies kind of precluded it.
Nice share.

Piqued my interest when KB first played it a few weeks back.

IMO the "Disturbed" version hasn't detracted from the original any.

Plus the Disturbed lead has an excellent "rock voice".......

Cheers Pack....found it, read all the posts (81) enjoyed most of them :D

Captain Dart For Aussies: the late Jon English: Bob Seger's 'Turn the Page'.

We where in Coffs Harbour xmas 14 and went to watch him brillant RIP Jon.

TWT A reggae version of 'Dark Side of the Moon' ?

I love reggae but this was a step to far.. :D

Stairway to Heaven, this one by Ann and Nancy Wilson

Must play this for Mrs Ice later, she loves Heart.

Thanks everyone for responses. Some unusual stuff around. I try to have an open mind but reggae versions of Dark Side and Stairway is a step too far for me.
Just thought of another, Green Manalishi by Judas Priest.

Agree 100%....

2 Cellos playing "Thunderstruck" ACDC cover.

It's good....but it's Steve'n'Seagulls for me.. ;)

Anyone interested you can read the whole thread here....

Thought the 'Stairway to Heaven' was a pretty memorable performance, obviously many of the audience thought so too. Have bookmarked it.

I "think" I've heard the "Thunderstruck" version on cello that Ice mentions.

Better still (certainly more amusing), was the version of that, that was on FB last year linked from YouTube.

Thunderstruck, performed by a busker on................

Bagpipes ;D
