T500 Alembic Head
Just done my first pot still run with the Still Spirits' alembic copper dome head and condenser - lovely! Dead simple and great spirit coming off.
I got mine here - http://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/still-spir ... bic-still/ I've not seen them anywhere else yet, but I'm sure they'll be more stockists before too long.

Re: T500 Alembic Head
Hi im fairly new to distilling but ive been thinking about buying a T500. Now that u can buy an alembic head for the T500 is it worth buying the column. Apologies if this is a stupid question.

I suppose it comes down to, do you want to run a reflux at any time in the future??.
You could go for the boiler with the Alebic top and later make your own column when you'r ready...there's enough info on here.

Re: T500 Alembic Head
I plan to use both Barney. I'm making mostly gin so I use the reflux column for neutral spirits and then the alembic for the gin run with the botanicals. I quite fancy the idea of doing an all grain mash for a genever, blending the low wines from an alembic run with neutral spirits from a previous reflux sugar wash run.
I haven't decide which to use for stripping for stripping runs yet - I had thought I'd stick withe the column, but the simplicity of doing a straight run with the alembic is making me have second thoughts about using that and then the column for the spirit run. Anyone got any thoughts?

Hi i started to do stripping runs with the cooper pot head as its pretty quick about a 3rd quicker in time to strip it down so for me thats easier than the column.

Re: T500 Alembic Head
Just had a look at lovebrewing site's 'Alembic Still'.
I always thought an Alembic Still looked something like this

Alembic Stills are generally described as comprising three major parts, the Pot, the Swans Neck and the Worm (condenser).
The one on Lovebrewing is a T500 with a copper head and condenser. Nothing wrong with it, I'm sure it will work just fine but can it really be called an 'Alembic' Still?
Plus, I just spotted that just the Dome and Condenser cost GBP254
Who knows what they'd charge if they included a Swans Neck
Just a thought
