agave sweetner
Has anyone used agave sweetner instead of sugar in their mash for the t500?

Looked at it thinking of Tequila, but the price drove me away. It would work OK, just not sure if the taste would justify the cost.

I have access to it fairly cheap but I don't have a clue of how much I would need for a 5 gallon batch of mash, any ideas?

Is there nutrition information on it? In Canada it would list a serving size and for that would indicate how much of that was sugar. e.g. a Serving size of 20g and of that 18g is sugar. 18/20 = 90% sugar. So 1 Kg of Agave Sweetener would be the same as 900g of white sugar. You probably want around the equivalent of 5Kg of sugar for 5 gallons (23 litres). So you will need to figure out the sugar content and calculate how much of the sweetener you need.

Thank you for that quick response I well look at the label. Here is a pic of the label. I see that it has 16 grams of sugar per tablespoon and there are 49 tablespoons per container. 784 grams of sugar total

I found some at Costco 736 ml bottle which seems to equate to 30mlper serving
1 serving = 30 g
I will use it at 736 g per bottle and adjust sugars added to my wash
I hope it has a good flavor.

I did a wash using this stuff:

I used a bottle of this to about 3.3 lbs of sugar in a 3 gallon wash. Stripped it to give me a gallon for a spirit run. Didn't really taste like tequila, but was quite pleasant in its own right. Maybe an agave rum?

Rum must be made from a sugar cane based product. You can not make rum from sugar beets for example. Nor agave syrup. That gives you mescal. If from a certain area in Mexico it can be called Tequila.

Re: agave sweetner
Well it was made from cane sugar with agave syrup. I don't know what that makes it. It certainly wasn't tequila, as that has a very strict definition based on place of origIn. Not really mescal either. Agave sugar head doesn't sound too catchy, but I'm not sure what else to call it.
