My HBS has started stocking bottles of Alcotel flavours, just need to add 40% spirit to it.
I quite like the Jaeger (sp?)

Re: Flavoring Recomended and NOT
I like my gin, very use to drinking Tanqueray London Dry Gin.
I mixed up Essencia Blue Sapphire Gin ( London Gin ) with 40% neutral and have let it matured in the bottle for quite some months (6). I'm quite disappointed with the taste - lack of botanicals and perfume.
Can someone recommend me something else that is a bit more representative of being a London Dry Gin?
My neutral recipe is a tomato paste distilled using an StillSpirits Air Still.
Regards
David

Re: Flavoring Recomended and NOT
Having tried a few different essences, and a botched and re-worked version of Odin's Easy Gin,today I finally tasted an un-botched version of OEG.
It is very good.
Very light on the botanicals, but very simple.
I may add a few more botanicals next time.
It beats the essences into a cocked hat as is though.
Robert.

Re: Flavoring Recomended and NOT
Just so we're clear, the Airstill is a Pot Still, albeit a crude and basic one, and you can add botanicals and spices to the spirit run by fashioning a small basket to fit inside the still provided it sits above the liquid level (small basket with long legs). Alternatively you can go the masceration route and simply soak the botanicals etc in your best neutral spirit.
Essences are generally disappointing. We all start off there when we start distilling but quickly learn that they're a very poor substitute. Personally, I've never found one at produced a satisfactory result.
In the long run we all come to the realisation that what we can make, with a little effort, is capable of being far superior to commercially produced spirits because we make small, we take out all the crap stuff from our final spirits and we make exactly what we want and we make it to taste exactly the way we want it

@ xpc: Mate, here is an alternative to gin, and I suppose tonic. Becoming very popular around the world in the last 5 years or so is Rum and Tonic. Made the same way as a G&T.
A good rum is easier to make than a bad gin and you wont need to mess with an essence. Give it some thought.
