16. There is still some alcohol in your Airstill but it will need to be added to future stripping runs, as at # 6 above. Allow the still to continue running and collect the distillate in 100ml lots and check the ABV until the latest batch shows just 20%ABV. This part is call the Tails and is normally added to the stripping runs as at #6 above too.

Should I expect the tails to be as high as 50%?

The ABV varies with the wash and fermentation conditions. For sugar based washes, I expect them to start around 50 - 58% ABV, rarely above 65% ABV.

Checking my little black book,the tails used to start around 55% to 50% with tha Smart still for me too.
