Alan, when I click on your pic I get diverted to "Postimage.org" but can't see the full size pic!! Probably a minor tech problem. Did you, by any chance, copy and paste the pic in?

Worked fine for me. Did you burn the chips before putting them in?

I hate when something doesn't work as it should!!!

When I click on the photo posted by Magnu420 a new tab opens on my screen and I get a full screen view of the pic. When I click on Alan's photo I get a new tab with the postimage.org window for uploading images, the one you see if you try to add an image to your own post, but no details, no image....nothing!!

Anyone any idea why? Puzzling especially as it worked fine for Edwatters and all other photos work for me too!

As I said, I hate when something doesn't work as it should ???

Re working as good as it should....
@Magnu420...
if wish to try 'flavouring' and you can get your hands on some actual american oak barrels, even in bits/sticks (think, say, 10-15mm square x 100mm lengths).....
may I suggest a quick boil then toasting (oven) or charring (Mapp torch) your own and putting these in @65%ABV suitable spirit until the taste/colour suits?
You wont be disappointed IMHO.
(BTW a small amount of stick per spirit volume + lots of maturation time = ;D )

Don't forget to give it a good shakeup any time you pass it.

I found this helps speed up the process.

Looking good ;D

I usually leave mine 7-10 days. It depends on the quality of the JD wood chips. Sometimes you get great stuff in the bag and sometimes it's just OK. Last September I got 16 bags from a couple of garden centres at the end of the so-called Summer and they were glad to offload them to me for just a few quid each. I mixed the entire batch and re-bagged them so the consistency would average out. Seemed to work OK!

I live in the U.S. and use oak barrels are very cheap and readily available where I live,however they are mostly wine barrels. Would these work ?

I have a 1/2 gallon of sprits made from wine then carbon filtered.I used store bought toasted oak chipsand added a strip of toasted maple that I made. I have been shaking it every day. It has taken on a carmel colour and wanting to know how long to leave the wood iside the bottle.
