I use the chips from two batches to make one more (use double the chips for a second round). Then I discard them.

I got a lighter flavour second time.
Made a light finishing drink with some monin syrup. Yum.

You can also leave them sealed up for a week that helps up the extraction. 8)

Thanks for the tip I'm off to B&Q this very morning to collect a new mower..just checked the store and they have the JD in stock.. ;)

Sounds like a great idea using these chips. Are we certain that they are just simply oak chips though? I'm just a little concerned that they may have added some nasty accelerant or something to help them burn on the barbecue.

I'm probably just being paranoid!
