alternative carbon filter

ok guys I'm looking for an alternative carbon filter atm i got the type what came
with air still i can't afford the essencia filter (@80 pounds) or the ss type (@ 50 pounds)
till after crimbo but is there a another alternative or do i get a few more carbon to fit
on the ss filter to tie me over for time being,i like the idea to make one but the ones
I've seen are long and space is limited,i like summat simaler to the essencia type but
half size
any ideas please

i did see this earlier suppose it could be adapted at the cork end
to fit inside the neck of a demi john
what size bottle was used
