clearing wash

hi all

well my wash has finished after 27 days but the temp dropped to 18c so I reckon that's why, so now I need to clear it, but how ? its been outside for 3 days at 0c and it has about an inch of sediment at the bottom but its still very orange looking, should just mention I used the tomato puree recipe with lemon juice and normal yeast.

The orange colour won't go away until it is distilled. It will clear from a murky orange to a transparent one. The first thing I would do is to rack if off of the sediment. Then stir / beat to release the gas. I'd expect it to clear naturally at 0c after that, though it will take some days. For a faster / better result, I use Sparkolloid. The only source that I know of is in North America: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3073 There are other agents that you can get at any beer or wine making place.

yes chill it is today no longer murky but a nice clear orange looks a bit like tizer, so can i go ahead and run this as a strip run and should i use 2 capfuls of anti foaming agent ?

My washes get racked twice,once from the fermenter,to leave most sediment behind,and then get left to settle out;and then either into the still if using my big one,or into another large bucket if using the smart still
Clear orange colour is OK.
Rack it off,beat it up a little to de-gas,add conditioner,or boil pieces,and strip away.

I always used to use the StillSpirits Triple Distilled yeast, the liquid carbon and the 2 part finings (the local HBS used to sell them as a "kit").

Since I changed to using Vodka Star, I don't bother with the carbon or finings. I just fire up the ferment, let it run for 2 weeks (instead of the 1 as stated in the instructions) so it drops clear naturally (yes I do check it's finished after a week with my wine hydrometer, then I give it a bloody good degassing with a hand held electric balloon whisk).

Then I just run it as normal, making sure that I use some distillers conditioner and the boil enhancers in the wash. A double distilling and carbon filtering have proved to me that it still comes out fine and is a bit cheaper..........

Mine may be even cheaper than Phantom's,as I do similar,but use lentil wash and Allinson's instead of VS.
I can't remember the last time that I used finings.
I can't fault it.
