No, I\'ve not got all the DAP etc so I\'ve never done this one - I did pick up some Young\'s Super Wine Yeast at Wilko\'s yesterday which contains DAP so I might give it a go with that. If you try it, let us know how it went!

Well it does look reasonable, though I\'ve noticed that a lot of the HBS don\'t sell straight DAP, only mixed general nutrients that have other stuff in it (for wine and beer making) as well. I might send off to the HBS I use in the States for some as quite a few of the mead recipes I want to try suggest it as well i.e. for making general nutrients higher in nitrogen, they\'ll do stuff like use half the suggested FermaidK and then top it up with DAP, so in my case it should be worth the effort!
I\'m not familiar with \"Distillers Yeast\" either so I\'d have to get some of that. I wonder how it varies from wine and bread yeasts ? especially given the quantity suggested, as that\'s quite a lot.

I read somewhere that vitamin B was important for yeast, so you can just make do with a bit of lemon juice and a crushed up multivitamin - not tried this either but I will do at some point.

Well the lemon juice is only the same as citric acid in some recipes, and Vit B can be obtained by using a teaspoon of marmite - and while a meadmaking aquaintance has done that, i\'m not a big fan of the idea as marmite also contains a lot of salt which can inhibit yeastsI read somewhere that vitamin B was important for yeast, so you can just make do with a bit of lemon juice and a crushed up multivitamin - not tried this either but I will do at some point.

Yes, I've done hundreds of liters of this stuff, works great - just keep the SG down as directed and its incredibly clean. (5KG per 25L.)
Swap out the bakers yeast for wine yeast, a bit of Vit B like phantom suggested and its done in a week.
I use lalvin 71B-1122, EC-1118 works well too.
I don't use the DAP as its hard to get or pricey, and use the yeast bomb for nutrients it finishes quickly.

how come you never told me about this?
Sorry I appear to have caused some offense
The main reason being this wash I have tried with higher sugar quantities, and IMHO it does better with the low SG.
You were already getting good advice from other members on the board, and a recipe or 2 that would go to almost as high an ABV as the turbos you had been running.
If I had chimed in with a recipe that only produced 2/3's the quantity of alcohol, that might have put you off, and I do believe the non-turbo route is a good one - even if its for cost alone.
Also as I said I use the yeast bomb for nutrients - it's a bit more work that his original wash - also has some ingredients that folks are not comfortably using.
Not keeping secrets - just this recipe is not a turbo replacement.
