My wash is bubbling away quite nicely and it is not as smelly as it was in the beginning. I intend to do everything by the book first time round but I am going to copy Andy and try one without the Carbon. Has anyone seen the video of the guy on utube who does his wash using cold water straight from the tap. Anyone tried it? I hope to start the run by Sunday and will let you know how it turns out. Glad I read some of the posts from the guys who just got this machine as I know I am not alone in stabbing in the dark and can avoid some of the pitfalls hopefully. Cheers guys

I may be wrong but........
Carbon in the wash is mainly to keep smells down while fermenting.
Not having carbon in the wash will not change the outcome of the final spirit, not with the T500 anyway.
I have stopped using Turbo Clear (just leave a week longer now) and I have stopped filtering after the run as I dont think it needs it.
I use Vodka Star and Dextrose along with filtered water for the wash.
Good luck and keep us posted how it goes.

Thx for the reply Andy. I tried to get Dextrose from the supermarket but they did not have any .I was to lazy to go to the local health shop for some. Will do on the next run though. I drink vodka mainly and was disapointed when wineworks sent me everything bar voka flavourings in the starter kit. I am having to send away for vodka flavouring as I DONT HAVE A LOCAL HOME BREW SHOP up here in the North of Scotland. I am starting my first run tomorrow now as I heard a slight gurgle from the wash this morning. Will let you know how things go. Cheers

Short, to use the USATF definition of vodka is "neutral flavourless spirit" and where you are, IRN BRU is all the flavouring you should need ;-D
You'll find that you might as well use fresh fruit, a coffee filter and sugar to flavour it. The so called "vodka flavours" are basically that.
