It normally takes 20 or 30 seconds for the boiling sound to start. I plug mine into a power metre which means I can see if the element is drawing current or not.

As mentioned there is a reset button on the underside of the boiler but depending on where you are in the world there might also be a fuse in the main lead.

I've just had the same problem today. My fault, that I plugged the boiler in before filling - I know, I know...idiot! - Anyway, the thermal cut-off reset didn't fix the problem, so I took a look inside. It turns out that the thermal fuse had blown (confirmed by measuring the resistance across it).

Now, I wouldn't recommend this fix, but all I did was get a piece of mains wire (complete with insulation) and bypassed the thermal fuse. The boiler is now working fine, and I'll get a replacement thermal fuse at Maplin through the week.

The Fuse is located under the bright metal tab that is secured to the bottom of the ceramic.

Hope this helps.

I am having a heating problem. Put in product, connected everything, plugged in heated, 5 min later shuts off. pushed reset button, heats 5 min and than shuts down.

Firstly if the boiler is working you don't have to wait to see if its working, as soon as you switch it on within 10 or so seconds you will hear it starting up (just like a giant kettle)if its not and you are sure the power is on and the plug fuse is OK you only have the thermal cut off underneath, if you lift it up you will find a small small button that you just press back in, if that fails either the thermal cut off has packed up or the element has.

Secondly in the picture the T500 is plumbed in the wrong way round, where the pipe is attached to the tap is where the water flows back out, the water temp leaving the boiler where the bottom temp gauge is attached should be reading ideally 55-60 degrees C. if it is at that temp you don't need to know what the top one reads, on the later models like mine they have removed the top gauge all together, as long as the water exiting past the probe is 55-60 I am allways getting very good quality 93ish %

Looks like you have a faulty thermal cut off
