Moonshiners TV show - Love it or hate it?

Re: Moonshiners TV show - Love it or hate it?
I will confess that while channel hopping last night I noticed that an episode was about to start, so I hit the ‘record’ button.
I hardly ever watch Discovery Channel programmes in real time due to the lengthy advert and trailer breaks - see above.
I fast-forwarded through most of the episode this morning in between breakfast, feeding the dog and leaving for work.
Hardly anybody seems to have produced anything yet, what with arguing about construction of a hideout, mashes getting ruined or things catching fire.
One group are wood smoking a small tray of corn to add to their corn mash to make scotch (with a small ‘s’ if you read the captions).
And I thought that pot still Scotch (with a capital “S’) could only be made in Scotland from malted barley, some of which is usually peat smoked, and then had to be aged in oak for a minimum of 3 years but often between 5 and 15. Well what do I know?

I waste my "silly" time in other ways, and I won't say that such people are any less than myself, how we amuse ourselves is part of what makes us all get along.

So it's 'silly' for distillers to watch programs about distilling?
Personally I have learnt a bit from the show good and bad but I guess you wouldn't know as you've already said you can't watch it but choose to judge none the less. Moonshiners is an entertainment show made to appeal to the masses but that does not mean there isn't interesting stuff on there like seeing actual distilleries and the different equipment and methods used and also snippets of the history of our hobby.
As for people living on this forum for 'brief periods' maybe a few less insulting comments and people might stick around longer

The show is just that entertainment!!
Hmmmm...wonder if my Uncle was on there?

Well i watched moonshiners and learned if you put sugar in your boiler while your distilling you can get more moonshine out the spout...

Has this ever been on Sky or is YouTube the best bet for watching it?

The current series runs on the discovery channel on a Wednesday at 10, there are some up on YouTube as well but they all have some stupid frame on them that reduces your viewing window to a quarter of the TV

@ specifically brewhunter.
I apologise if you think I have dissed you in any way.
Not my intention.
If you think that you will learn more from main-stream tv, than a dedicated site serving your interests, that is your choice.
Equally, this is a site where people are allowed to say what they think.
And we let that happen.
And if you want to pick a fight with me, that can be arranged

Firstly apology accepted I hope we'll be able to draw a line under this.. life is too short for warring with people I don't even know.
Just to clear up, I didn't compare the TV show to this forum and nor would I as they are two completely different things. Every bit of advice I've received here has been truly appreciated and as I've said before everyone has been great, I just thought your comments were uncalled for and unnecessary.
Hopefully we can move on now

Let's do so.
And I offer one more apology, reading through this thread again, I may not have been
succinct.
Please do bear in mind that anything made for TV concerning illicit activities, has a license to go a long way from the credible.
That was the point I was trying to make. Clumsily on this occasion.
I am all for suspending reality while watching a movie or TV, it makes day to day life seem a little easier.
Happy Stilling.
Robert.

I have only seen a few shows of this series. Chinese TV does not carry it but an American did give me copies of some he had recorded. I enjoyed it.
But the point I am making is that I got the idea for Apple Pie from this show. I tweaked the recipe and use rum instead of corn whiskey. And at this stage, Apple Pie is my biggest seller - by far. So thank you Moonshiners.
My version of Apple Pie is posted on this site. Feel free.

Now there's an endorsement I can get behind! What a funny world we live in, a relatively stupid program taken half way round the world inspires a product that becomes a mans staple income! The apple rye brandy idea sounds tasty to me, I don't think I will bother with the whole double pot set up though...flavour charge the thumper instead sounds easier. Or maybe just blend rye whiskey & apple brandy in a glass to see if it's a flavour worth investing any time into first

I liked the sound of that 'cherry bounce' made from cherries and honey.

I'd give pretty much any recipe a chance (jalapeño shine is a definite no however), cherries are sooooooooo flaming expensive though there would have to be some windfall "these are going to go in the bin if you don't take them" kind of situation before I'd give it a go
