I will definitely let you know how we get on. Going to try the Plymouth with the bitter orange peel first, then maybe your tea one and then we want to experiment a bit.

Has anyone put freeze dried fruit in their sputnik? Is there a reason not to do this?

Nope. Never seen a recipe that includes it. That said I don't/wouldn't have a problem with using it.

Dont use the pith. I think thats how you spell it.
Gives a very bitter taste, or is that desired.

1 litre 40% neutral
1 litre water
10g juniper
5g coriander seeds
1g red pepper corns
1g freeze dried strawberry
1g freeze dried raspberry
Pinch of angelica root
Pinch of orris powder

Shut down at 50% watered down to 38% (was aiming for 40% but hey ho)

Just sipping a glass now while spinning Phil Spector's Christmas album.

It louched (I guess from the fruit) but tastes pretty good! Need some tweaks, but I have the basis of something pretty great.

That used to be my fav Xmas album, these days it is this, https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... xV0zPobsDs

Less convinced on the dried fruit.
I grow more fruit than I can use fresh.

Happy Gin-mass to you!

freeze dried fruit packs more of punch, you get a more intense flavour hit from a small amount than you do from fresh fruit. We use them all the time when me make breakfast cereals or in baking.

I think I speak Robert as well, when you have the stuff in your garden fresh it is difficult to justify the cost and also accept the waste of not using your own.

I still have some apple brandy, frozen, still with its pips in :D

Captainfog
Yes poss the fruit causing your haze. But its
just aesthetic, no flavour loss.
Two things. If using fruit I take 1st 50ml and
throw this has most of the fruit oils in it.
Second as all the Gin lovers on here will tell
you, to help stop louching keep at 42% or more.
You can always add a dash more Tonic ;D ;D

Can someone explain why this thread reads like it is written by a Bond movie villan?

Or the plural thereof.

"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die!" I love that scene. When I read your reply Robert, I went through the last page with Blofeld in my head :)

Did you know that Blowfeld's cat never had a name?
On screen or seemingly off.
This came to light here over Xmas as we still have a semi-feral cat in a large cage trapped over that time and since taken to the vet to have the snip.
He is still not a happy cat and quite hissy.
I am not a cat person but have invested a lot of time in this mog.
He and I are learning from each other.
I still suspect that one day I will open the cage and never see him again.

Anybody got any other tried and tested recipes they'd care to share?

The tea gin and orange dry gin from this thread are staples in this household (recipes tweaked for personal taste). Looking to try something else now!
