Heads Run

Postby PieOPah » Wed Feb 11, 2015 9:51 am

Are there any guides for doing a Heads Run in an Airstill?

I have been collecting my heads and will be ready to do a run fairly soon, but I wasn't sure where to make cuts.

Thanks.

Try mozr's post;
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=765
He alludes to it there, and there is then another link to a run that he did.

Some more information here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3321

I just did a run yesterday of 3.6L of heads and 400ml of water (e.g. not diluted and probably stupidly dangerous). From the output I:
- tossed 250ml as too contaminated to re-run
- kept 250ml for next heads run
- kept 4 x 100ml to taste (kept last two)
- collected about 2L as hearts
- collected 3 x 100ml to taste (all went to tails)
- kept what as left in the still as tails

I ended up with 2.2L @ 82% ABV. I use this as base for Gin.

If you are sensible and put in about 2L of heads and the rest water, you should expect about half of this.

Chuck,
I like stupidly dangerous, and whilst advocating safety to members on this forum, what is a life lived in fear of banging shopping carts outside a supermarket/retail store?
I bet that there is not a single member here (that owns one) that has not tried to wind an Airstill/Smartstill upto it's max by running at high ABV's.
A nice, succinct post by the way.
