Thanks pp, it works perfectly. It's capable of lots of different functions, apparently, but for the moment, I'm happy with it just controlling my boiler temp.

Most certainly Jacobs, but not seeing enough ventilation holes for me?
I would personally pepper the box with them.

Oh yeah... and a fan. These things get do get hot.
If I am honest I would buy a project box. They are not a fortune but do make a difference.

Has another look at the photo and says bugger it does have a fan. But with no holes the fan might suck in the controller and spit it out in bits

LOL
Thinks, I saw fan, I saw holes in front of it.
My choice would be to put other holes elsewhere too.
Robert.

Re: Is the SD controller DIY kit any good?
Spoke with Brian at UA yesterday regarding the AVR-25 we had a chat about my use for it and he suggested that I might be better off controlling the temperature with a ZVT and sensor as detailed in his quote. Any input appreciated.
Our Offer
Line Quantity Stock Code Description Unit Price (£) Lead Time
1 1 A15201 AVR-25-230v £74.68 1 week
2 1 A26223 ZVT-25 (0-150°C) 230v £97.80 1 week
3 1 A26036 ZVT-E-10 Stainless Steel Sensor £19.53 Ex-Stock 6mm dia, 50mm long
Line shows a 25A controller, which when used with a suitable temperature sensor (line 2) will provide closed-loop temperature feedback, allowing a set point to be selected and the controller to regulate the temperature). Line 3 is the sensor which can be fitted into a vat of liquid with compression fittings. Other cheaper rubberised sensors are available on request. .........................................................................................................................................................................................

Hi Inspector Gadget
What exactly are you planning on doing with this controller?
The A26223 ZVT-25 (0-150°C) 230v looks like a thermostat more than anything, sure it uses a Triac to control the load, so maybe it has some kind of proportional control but if you just want a controller to reduce your power to your boiler, then the AVR is perfect for the job, I've used one for years.

Totally agree with the AVR, if you only want to buy something once, this is the way.
Always give the hardest job to the laziest person because they will always find the easiest way to do it.

Thanks guys, unfortunately he asked what my intended use was and that was where I went wrong, I should have just ordered it online, As advised AVR-25 it will be, 7 day lead time so thats sorted.

Re: Is the SD controller DIY kit any good?
Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn, but why spend that amount of money unessesarily? My set up cost me about £20 all in, and is doing the same job as (I think) you want yours to do.
In answer to the question of ventilation in my Jacobs box. When I'm running it, I leave the lid off, so that's one enormous hole for the heat to escape from!
