Where Can I source the Cheapest Wood?
SWMBO has decided I must sort the garden out - sheeeesh, they don't tell you these things before getting married, do they?
So, I need to buy a truck-load of wood (no kidding). Where and how do I get this at a reasonable cost? Wood merchants? Haggling?
It's to make a summer house/aviary/potting shed.
Thanks, guys.

No idea where to get the wood where you are, but I can confirm that no, they purposely do NOT tell you these things before the wedding.

Hi Voddy, it might be more cost effective to have one built to your specification and haggle over the price. The supplier will probably deliver and erect the building for you at no extra cost. My supplier gave me a price and I got £50 off after haggling. All I did was build a level base for my brewhouse using treated fence posts.

Not being rude mate, but unless you are handy, and have a whole bunch of time, don't go there before looking around at ready made or bespoke options.
Ask yourself the question - how long is this construction expected to last?
It is unlikely to add to the value of your property,no matter who builds it.
Of course, its value to yourself, and yours may be inestimable.
Now, if you can find a 'Chippy' that doesn't talk too much, you may manage a good deal on the product you produce while someone else does what they do best....
Just a thought.

There is no ONE way.

^^^ I agree. Economies of scale apply to wood a lot. No way can an individual buy the timber cheaper than those buying it by the lorry load.
Have you considered a steel shed? A friend of mine has 2 steel sheds and I was impressed by how little they cost.

Ring round local shed manufactures or draw up a rough sketch and pop in and see them.
I have found most round my way are quite to make "custom" sheds for very little extra .. even to the extent of a shed turning into a dog kennel stroke very large run ... was £100 more than a normal shed but used more metal , etc ... I couldn't have built it for the cost they would charge !!!
